Start from zero

8 May 2017

The Sky Bet Championship campaign has reached its conclusion and all that’s left to decide is who will join Newcastle and Brighton in the Premier League, via the play-offs.

Reading, Huddersfield and Fulham join Wednesday to battle for the ultimate prize.

Following yesterday’s final round of fixtures, the Owls finished in fourth spot and will travel to Huddersfield in the semi final first leg.

Head coach Carlos Carvalhal says all the teams have a 25% chance of success and says what has gone before now does not matter.

“Between the teams in the play-offs, everything starts again from zero. We are now into a new Championship,” Carlos explained.

“The table and the points never give mistakes to anyone. If the teams are nearer each other with similar points in a long marathon, it shows the teams have equal value.

“Last season when we went to the play-offs, everybody understands that Brighton were strong and fighting until the last second for direct promotion.

“Hull City were a team very strong, so too Derby and we were completely underdogs.

“The percentage of the possibilities were minimal to us. Because we deserved it, we beat one of the favourite teams Brighton and after we lose the final against another strong team.

“This seasons, I think the things are more balanced.”
