Carlos Carvalhal has revealed the three key parts that led to the Portuguese extending his contract with Sheffield Wednesday.
In an exclusive interview with swfc.co.uk, the head coach says the chairman, players and fans left him with no doubts over committing to a new S6 deal.
The progress of the club both on and off the pitch over the past two seasons has given Carlos plenty to be excited by for the future and reasons to feel optimistic leading the team into 2017/18.
“What moved me is the feelings,” he said.
“It’s something I appreciate a lot. I must tell you that I have a very good connection with the chairman - all the time I trust in him and he trusts in me.
“This was a very important part of my decision to extend.
“Also it was my players. When we finished the season the captain of the team and more players came to my office and said, ‘We understand that you can move to another club but we will be very disappointed if you go. We like to work with you, we like to improve our abilities and our football.’
“That made a strong impact on me and the third part of the triangle is the fans and their unbelievable support.
“I received a lot of messages from the fans and I am sure that I must stay given this warm environment that I feel inside the club.”
Given the journey of the Owls over the past two seasons and back to back play-off campaigns, Carlos says everything is in place to come back stronger next season, with hard work over the summer and everyone pushing in the same direction.
He added: “I wanted to feel the fans, players and chairman at the end of the season but I was absolutely sure three or four months ago that we will stay in the club for next season with very good expectations.”
