Following the 2-2 draw at Ipswich on Tuesday night, the Owls are back on the road this Saturday, facing Reading at the Madejski Stadium.
The Royals reached the play-off final last time out - like Wednesday the season before - but have struggled to hit similar heights this time round.
Owls head coach Carlos Carvalhal said: “Reading achieved the play-offs and the final last season but so far they have not been up to that same level.
“This shows it is not easy in this competition to get into the top six two seasons in a row, as we did, and we are trying to do again this year.
“Both Reading and Fulham reached the play-offs, but they are not finding it so easy this time.
“This may be because the expectation level goes up after you get to the play-offs.
“This will be a difficult game, as they all are in this competition, it is a league for strong personalities and resilient people.”
