A talented Sheffield College golfer, who studies at the Sheffield Wednesday Education Centre, has been offered a scholarship to play oversees with College Sponsorships USA after participating in the Regional College Golf Tournament.

Second year BTEC Level 3 Football Development student Ryan Stopford, 17, arrived in York on Wednesday 4 October for the Regional College Tournament.

And his impressive performance at the tournament, combined with his progress in his college course at Hillsborough, generated interest from scholarship programme College Sponsorship USA.

The overseas company provides talented students and athletes the opportunity to study at American University and compete in college sports.

Ryan will be sponsored to study and participate in high-level golfing tournaments in the USA.

He said: “College golf is an ideal platform to take your game to the next level at the same time as studying for a degree in America, so I am really excited at the opportunities ahead.”

An amazing achievement Ryan, well done!
