Wednesday midfielder Almen Abdi was happy to get 90 minutes under his belt in the Owls Under-23s victory over Sheffield United on Tuesday evening.
The Swiss international scored Wednesday’s winning goal after the hosts came from a goal behind to win the Steel City derby 2-1.
Abdi said: “Scoring a goal wasn’t the most important thing to me.
“More importantly to me was to play and I have managed to get 90 minutes as I try to keep fit, that’s the main thing for me.
“But, of course, if I can score it’s very good for my confidence. But, in the end, I just need to keep going and hopefully I can stay fit and help the first team.”
The former Watford man put in a fine display for the Under-23s and was happy to help the team to a victory that saw Neil Thompson’s side go three points clear at the top of the Professional Development League 2.
Abdi added: “I was young as well once and I know how it is. They have very good abilities.
“We spoke at half time about what we needed to do better and we did exactly that in the second half.”
