U18 Report: Owls 4-0 Barnsley

26 November 2017

The Owls Under-18s returned to winning ways in style at Middlewood Road on Saturday, defeating South Yorkshire rivals Barnsley 4-0.

Two goals inside the first six minutes gave Wednesday the perfect platform from which to build.

First, Jordan Lonchar directed his back post header high into the net from Alex Hunt’s corner.

Wednesday then doubled their advantage moments later when Liam Shaw connected in the middle from Joe West’s high, looping centre.

The Owls rarely looked in any danger throughout as Hunt went close to extending the lead before the break on the counter.

After a good start by the visitors in the second half, Ben Wilkinson’s side asserted their authority on the game.

West and Ben Hughes combined wonderfully down the left before the former picked out Liam Waldock inside the box, who applied an unstoppable finish from 16 yards.

There was still time for a fourth as Hughes slotted home from a quick Owls counter to round off a good day for the Wednesday youngsters.

Owls: Brazinskas, Dawodu, West, Gavrilov (Hornsby 70), Shaw, Brennan, Waldock, Grant, Lonchar (Hammoud 60), Hunt, Hughes
