Poppy shirts to be auctioned

2 November 2017

Sheffield Wednesday will now wear their traditional blue and white home shirt for the trip to Aston Villa on Saturday – with the worn matchday shirts to be auctioned for the benefit of the Royal British Legion.

This weekend, the nearest round of Championship fixtures to Remembrance Day on Sunday 12 November, sees the EFL dedicate each game to the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal, with both teams at Villa Park wearing home shirts adorned with poppies.

All the shirts will be signed after the game and made available for the online auction organised by Sky Bet.

The Owls made their own tribute for Tuesday’s home match against Millwall, when a rendition of the Last Post preceded a minute’s silence to remember all those who have lost their lives in conflict.

Wednesday’s 150th anniversary third strip designed by supporter Karl Nuttall was originally scheduled to be worn at Villa Park but will now be debuted at a future fixture.
