‘The value is there, the soul is there’ and Carlos Carvalhal is confident his side can turn their fortunes around with plenty of points to fight for in the Championship marathon.

The key word for the head coach ahead of Saturday’s trip to Derby is ‘consistency.’

Outstanding against Leeds, disappointing against Bolton - Carlos has challenged his players to stay nearer the levels of the former.

The head coach named an unchanged side last week at Bolton following the Owls’ best performance of the season against Leeds but came away empty-handed.

He said: “It’s not a question of value, when you play like how we did against Leeds, a high level performance, and after few days with the same players, we did exactly the opposite.

“So it’s important to ask internal questions about why things change in those few days.

“The answers must be from within ourselves and I give some responsibility to the players about that.

“We know when we are playing consistent at our high level then we are very difficult to beat, the problem is we are not as consistent as we would like.

“And we must think about that, understand why and we have some answers in this moment.

“We must work hard to the future to do more what we did against Leeds and less what we did at Bolton.

“We have the value, we have the soul, we have the talent, we are here and ready to fight. I believe we will improve to the future and move away from this position.”
