Under-23s wideman Matt Penney said the Owls are buzzing to be back on top of the league following a comfortable 4-1 victory over Birmingham.

Penney opening the scoring straight from a corner which whipped in over Blues goalkeeper Jacob Weaver.

Daniel Pudil scored, before Penney tucked away from the penalty spot to make it 3-0, with Preslav Borukov grabbing a fourth.

Penney said: “Birmingham is always a tough game, but the lads came out on top.

“We’ve been talking this week about how they play and we’ve executed it well so the lads are buzzing for the three points.

“Everyone is really comfortable on the ball and willing to try different things and, if they don’t work, we get behind them and we go again.

“As a team that’s what you want, people who can play on the ball and that showed today.”

The winger, who spent part of last season on loan with Bradford, was on top form for the young Owls side and he says he is enjoying his football.

He added: “I enjoy playing in midfield, I feel like I can show more of myself.

“I always demand high standards of myself and it’s nice to get on the scoresheet and help the team to stay on top of the league and hopefully we can keep going.”
