23s triumph at Palace

12 September 2017

The Owls Under-23s made a terrific return to winning ways on Monday afternoon at Selhurst Park.

Preslav Borukov’s first half strike was the difference as the Owls overcame Crystal Palace 1-0.

Palace threatened early in the game as Michael Phillips headed just over from a Jason Lokilo centre.

Wednesday’s first chance fell to Fraser Preston, who curled just past the far post.

But the Owls went on to grab a foothold in the game and went ahead five minutes before the break through 18-year-old Borukov.

James Murphy’s free kick caused confusion in the Palace 18-yard box and Borukov was on hand to stab beyond Palace keeper Dion-Curtis Henry from close range.

Shortly after the restart, Matt Penney saw his thunderbolt strike come crashing back off the crossbar from distance and as Palace threw everything they had in search of the equaliser, they were almost hit on the break in the closing moments.

A poor clearance from the Palace shot-stopper fell to Warren Clare, who burst upfield before Preston had the final shot, which flew just wide.

A superb travelling triumph for the Owls, who next face QPR at Middlewood Road on Monday 18 September.

Owls: Wallis, Baker, O'Grady, Nielsen, Penney, Preston, Murphy, Kirby, Clarke, Lonchar (Benedetti 77), Borukov (Waldock 62)
