Today we celebrate our 150th anniversary!
On this day in 1867 at the Adelphi Hotel – where the Crucible Theatre now stands – a meeting was held to officially form a football section of the Sheffield Wednesday Cricket Club.
Ben Chatterton was elected as president, John Marsh as secretary and team captain.
On the same day, the famous colours of blue and white were adopted!
Around sixty members were enrolled on the night, including many of the finest players in Sheffield.
In 1820 the founders of the Wednesday Cricket Club were local craftsmen whose weekly half day off was Wednesday.
Wednesday Cricket Club was subsequently disbanded in September 1924. The Club was simply known as "Wednesday" or "The Wednesday" until in June 1929 when the name was officially changed to Sheffield Wednesday.
Thank you all for your incredible support down the years and here's to many more successful ones to come!
