I take the responsibility

24 September 2017

Carlos Carvalhal took responsibility for the Owls’ home defeat to Sheffield United and insisted his side will bounce back.

Wednesday were beaten 4-2 by the Blades and the head coach said he will bear the burden and collectively, the Owls will regroup ahead of the trip to Birmingham in midweek.

He said: “It is my responsibility because I am the coach and that is the reality.

“Today, I think the story of the game changed because Sheffield United scored very early in the game.

“After this, they had the confidence and we did not play our football, we did not look like Sheffield Wednesday.

“When we got the goal before half time, that gave us a way back into the game and we started the second half very well.

“We got it back to 2-2 and I thought like most people in the stadium that we could go on and win the game.

“But Sheffield United scored almost immediately and the balance was back in their favour.

“We had to chase the game once more and after this, they scored the fourth goal, which won the game.

“But we know that in the past we have always given a good response and we must do this again when we play Birmingham on Wednesday and then Leeds next Sunday.”
