Opposition view – Carsley expects strong Owls display

27 September 2017

Blues caretaker manager Lee Carsley is wary of the Owls this evening and expects Carlos Carvalhal’s side to come out fighting at St Andrew’s.

Birmingham suffered five consecutive defeats in the Championship and six in all competitions but put a halt to that unwanted run last time out with a 1-1 draw at Derby.

And as Carsley prepares for his first home game in the hotseat, the former Blues midfielder believes his players will go head to head with a tough and resilient Wednesday side, as he explained:

“I expect them to be all guns blazing on Wednesday and it's important we not only match them but try and run over the top of them.

"Wednesday are a decent team, you can see what the manager is trying to do there. It's going to be a tough game for us.

"The way they have performed the last two seasons, the way they have just missed out on promotion - they have obviously got the ability and resilience within the team to put to bed a bad result and move on.

"But we won't concentrate too much about Sheffield Wednesday, we will be worried about imposing our own style on another team and making sure we can perform at St Andrew's.

"The lads should look forward to playing at St. Andrew's.”
