The Owls academy continued their excellent run on Saturday at Middlewood Road.

With the Under-23s hitting top spot in midweek following their win over Bristol City, it was the Under-18s’ turn to maintain their winning run.

Ben Wilkinson’s side emerged as 3-1 winners over Millwall but did not have the game all their own way, having fallen behind after seven minutes when the visitors capitalised on a defensive mix-up.

But in-form striker Preslav Borukov, who scored the winning goal for Bulgaria Under-18s earlier this month against Armenia, put the Owls back on level terms on 13 minutes.

Jordan O’Brien’s centre was met in the middle by a powerful Borukov header that flew past the helpless Lions goalkeeper.

Two minutes later and it was advantage Wednesday.

Ben Hughes’ strike was parried back into the danger zone, where Iyad Hamud was perfectly placed to slot home on the rebound.

Both Hammoud and O’Brien saw good chances go begging either side of the break and Borukov was unlucky to see his half volley narrowly miss the target just past the hour.

Wednesday’s hard work was rewarded with three minutes left on the clock when Borukov made the points safe.

O’Brien came out of a crunching challenge with possession before slipping the ball into the path of Borukov, who confidently buried the ball into the bottom corner.
