U18 report: Birmingham 1-5 Owls

18 April 2018

The Owls Under-18s romped to their fourth successive league victory on Tuesday afternoon at Birmingham.

Ben Wilkinson’s side went into the game in outstanding form and turned on the style once again in the Midlands, defeating the Blues 5-1.

The damage was largely done inside the first 20 minutes as Wednesday raced into a three-goal lead.

Jordan Lonchar struck just 95 seconds into the contest, slamming home from close range from Joe West’s cutback.

Wednesday were relentless in their search for a second and found a way through on 18 minutes.

Jordan O’Brien poked home on the rebound from Lonchar’s firce strike and Iyad Hamud made it 3-0 two minutes later, capitalising on a slip from Blues goalkeeper Lewis Landers.

Christ Mayuba gave the hosts a boost before the break as the Blues midfielder nodded home from four yards following a corner routine.

But hopes of a comeback were dashed after the break when O’Brien notched his second and Wednesday’s fourth of the game, with a confident finish on the hour.

Landers then did well to save from Hammoud 12 minutes from time but substitute Layton Swaine scrambled the ball home on the rebound in another strong day at the office for the 18s.

Owls: Render, Dawodu, West (Reaney 75), Waldock, Rice, Brennan, Hughes, Grant, Hammoud, Lonchar (Swaine 75), O’Brien
