Bannan signs new Owls contract

29 August 2018

Owls midfielder Barry Bannan has extended his contract at Hillsborough.

The Scottish international’s current deal was set to expire at the end of the season but the 28-year-old has signed a new deal with Wednesday.

The popular midfield man has committed his future to the club until 2021.

Joining the Owls on an initial one-year deal from Premier League side Crystal Palace in August 2015, Bannan’s influential performances quickly saw his popularity and opportunities rise in the Wednesday ranks.

His outstanding form during his maiden season at Hillsborough saw Bannan earn a three-and-a-half-year deal and the midfield ace has since gone on to cement his place both in the engine room and as a firm fans’ favourite.

A mainstay in the team, Bannan has clocked up 124 appearances to date, scoring five goals along the way and most recently hitting the target in stunning fashion during the Owls’ 2-1 win over Millwall.

In typical Bannan style, the all-action performer has been key in Wednesday’s recent upturn in results, earning the Man of the Match award live on Sky as Wednesday defeated Sunderland in the Carabao Cup and producing two eye-catching displays in the back to back home victories over Millwall and Ipswich.

The contract extension represents an excellent move for the Owls, tying down one of the most talented midfield operators in the Sky Bet Championship to a long term deal.
