18s set for Yorkshire derby

5 December 2018

The Owls Under-18s face a tough trip to Leeds on Saturday morning.

Andy Holdsworth’s youngsters are flying in the U18 Professional Development League.

Following last weekend’s 3-1 victory over Hull at Middlewood Road, Wednesday maintained their place at the top of the division.

The Owls have collected an impressive 34 points from 15 games and have tasted defeat just once this campaign.

That defeat came on home soil at the hands of Yorkshire rivals Leeds back in October, whom they are set to go head to head with on Saturday morning at Thorp Arch.

The Whites are also in strong form and head into the derby with back to back wins over Burnley and Barnsley and are currently third in the table, six points behind Wednesday’s with a game in hand.

Holdsworth said: “It’s another big game for the lads, we have a big week coming up with the FA Youth Cup game next week but all our focus is on Saturday.

“It’s always a tough game against Leeds and as pointed out, they are the only side to beat us this season.

“We didn’t perform to our highest standards on that day so hopefully we’ll see a much better display on Saturday but the lads are looking forward to it.”
