Improving as a player

2 February 2018

Joe Wildsmith is delighted with his recent run in the team.

The 22-year-old was crowned Owls Player of the Month for January, with fantastic form and four successive clean sheets.

Ahead of the clash with the Birmingham on Saturday, Wildsmith said: “Obviously it’s great for me to be in a team that is defending very well at the minute.

“That always highlights on the goalkeeper when you keep clean sheets but I’d like to say it has all been a big team effort.

“Every player has done their bit with the corners, free kicks, putting their heads on things, blocking things and making my job a lot easier, in that sense.

“The clean sheets haven’t just been about my performances, far from it. We all work hard.”

He added: “The hard work gets put in on the training ground and that work is showing in the games.

“It’s nice to get the accolades for making the saves but that is the pressure I put on myself anyway.

“As the games have gone on, I have felt my confidence get higher, playing games just helps you and I think it has improved me as a player.”
