Motivation and passion for cup

27 February 2018

Away from home against Premier League opposition in tonight’s FA Cup fifth round replay, Jos Luhukay is expecting a huge challenge at The Liberty Stadium.

With nothing to separate the two at Hillsborough ten days ago, the tie will be settled this evening with either the Owls or Swansea booking a place in the quarter finals.

For the Owls boss, there are many motivating factors ahead of the clash in South Wales and not least of all progression in the competition.

But the Dutchman is also keen to see an improvement in key areas from Saturday’s display against Aston Villa, that saw his side produce a performance but to no avail.

He said: “When I saw Swansea last Saturday, they lost 4-1 to Brighton so, like us, they have also the chance to do the job better than last weekend.

“We must try also to focus on the details with the set-ups and also show better defending in those situations.

“We must learn from the mistakes that we made and that we try to be more effective when we make the chances.

“It was a very frustrating game against Aston Villa and we had many chances to come to a better result.

“We will have chances to get us into the next round and we need to take them because we have a hard challenge with Swansea.

“We are not at our home where we have all our fans behind us, the motivation must come from inside and we must show the passion to come to the next round.”

In terms of team selection, he continued: “We will assess the physical condition of the players, see who is 100% and make our strategy and our plan.

“I respect all my players and the team I have here and everyone will give their best in the game to try to be in the next round.”
