David Jones says a run in the Emirates FA Cup could be the ideal tonic for the Owls.
Wednesday enter the competition at the third round stage this weekend and face League Two Carlisle at Brunton Park.
“It’s obviously a great competition and one we want to do well in,” Jones said.
“I think it can only help us going forward if we can get a result.
“On the back of the past couple of weeks we’ve had, it’s a good opportunity to come away from that and get back to basics.
“This weekend is all about progressing in the cup and we’ll come up against a resolute Carlisle side, who are playing at home and we’ll have to be ready for the fight.”
And the former Burnley man continued: “It’s a competition we want to do well in and it can only help us by progressing.
“If we can get some consistency and win some games, then you can never rule any possibility out in a season.
“We have to look at each game and just give everything.”
