From training to games

16 July 2018

Jos Luhukay says the transition from pre-season training to games is precisely what the squad need at this stage of their 2018/19 preparations.

To round off the Owls’ third week of pre-season work, Luhukay’s side travelled to Sincil Bank on Friday evening.

The game saw Wednesday field two different elevens in each half with Fernando Forestieri’s impressive strike ultimately sealing the win after the break.

Reflecting positively on recent weeks, Luhukay told swfc.co.uk: “I think it was important after the first few weeks of training that we had the game on Friday.

“It was good for us to change from training to game but we have now a lot of work to do.

“We have the last three weeks had really good intensity and quality in the training.

“We have trained in the last days very intensively and the game at Lincoln was an extension of that to come step by step to a good shape.”

While the emphasis was on the players gaining minutes under the belt, the friendly encounter has given the boss food for thought back on the training pitch, as he explained:

“It was not an easy game for us, we didn’t create as many chances as we would like in the first half.

“We started the second half very well, we made a fantastic goal through Fernando but after that it was harder to come to 100% chances.

“But we need these games as part of our preparation to help us make a good start for the new season.”
