Lewis McGugan cleared a Wigan effort off the line before May met Chris Maguire's cross and his header was adjudged to have crossed the line after hitting both uprights.

Wednesday came from behind to get back to winning ways at Hillsborough with a 2-1 triumph over Wigan.
contest eventually fell in the Owls’ favour after Will Grigg gave the Latics an early lead and Steven Fletcher equalised before Fernando Forestieri fired what proved the winner.
