Decision making, chance taking

16 March 2018

Jos Luhukay says his side must take their chances and make the right decisions when the opportunities arise on Saturday.

The Wednesday boss was left to rue missed chances on Saturday as Bolton struck a 93rd minute equaliser, leaving the Owls to reflect on two points dropped at the death.

Moving forward, Luhukay wants to see better decision-making in the final third, which could make all the difference in Saturday’s Yorkshire derby.

He said: “In the last two games when we have got into the final 30 metres, we have had seven or eight moments and not made a good decision with the last pass or cross.

“At the end, you can’t win games if you don’t take your chances. We must do better on Saturday in the final situation to score goals.

“We must have 100% focus and concentrations from the set-ups, from corners and free kicks.

“It is the small details all over the pitch that are important for success.”

A vibrant atmosphere awaits at Elland Road, with over 30,000 supporters expected and Luhukay continued:

“I look only to my team. In a derby, you must have the passion and the right mentality to come to a good result.

“Both lots of fans will give 100% support so you must also for them make a very good game to give everything you have.

“We must have strong mentality, fight from the beginning and win the 1-to-1 individual battles.

“It will be a very interesting game with both teams fighting to come to a good result, there will be a fantastic atmosphere.

“We must go to enjoy that but we also know we must produce a very good performance and that is what we will try to do.”
