Helping the team

9 March 2018

Lucas Joao’s outstanding ability has never been in doubt but producing it on a regular basis has been the challenge for the Portuguese ace.

It’s fair to say the striker is now reaching those levels at Hillsborough.

The 24-year-old has scored five goals in his last nine appearances and been a menace throughout.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash with Bolton, the towering forward wants to maintain a level of consistency and keep the goals coming.

He said: “I feel more consistent, I’m working hard every day and if I trust in myself and trust in my colleagues, then of course the goals will come.

“I’m a little bit happy and little bit sad because it’s nice to be scoring goals but it’s not good to be in this position.

“I’m happy to help the team, it’s my job to score the goals, this is my position and I need to keep going on like that.

“I hope I can continue like this and help the team as much as I can. I need to score goals - strikers survive by the goals. The goals come from hard work, work of the team and individual work.”

And the hitman will be looking to add to his recent tally on Saturday as Wednesday face a Bolton side also fighting to move away from potential danger at the wrong end of the table.

“We have to show the fans we don’t want to be in this position because it’s not the position Sheffield Wednesday should be.

“We need to work hard and prove to everybody we should not be there.

“All we can do is focus on Bolton, it’s at home against a team behind us in the league and we need to be far away from this position.”
