Owls boosted ahead of derby clash

15 March 2018

Joost van Aken, Sam Hutchinson and Barry Bannan are options for the Owls this weekend for the clash with Leeds United.

The trio have not featured for Wednesday since December but could be included in some capacity at Elland Road on Saturday.

Confirming all three are in contention for the Yorkshire derby, Jos Luhukay said:

“It’s positive news because Joost van Aken, Sam Hutchinson and Barry Bannan are training 100% full with the team.

“Sam and Joost have also played the week before for the Under-23s.

“They are in very good shape and have done a lot of work in the last weeks and they are options for the team on Saturday.

“I am very happy because when the players are 100% like this, we have more options for the first 11 and squad also.”

The boss provided an update on Fernando Forestieri, who will return to first team training on Friday.

“Fernando Forestieri has made very good progression and tomorrow can train for the very first time with the team after six months.

“If everything goes well in the next two weeks, maybe we will see Fernando and Marco Matias move closer to the team. It’s happy news I think.”

On the flip side of the coin, Luhukay confirmed that midfielder Sean Clare will miss the remainder of the campaign with an ankle injury.
