Vote for your swfc.co.uk Player of the Month

2 March 2018

Voting is now open for the swfc.co.uk February Player of the Month award.

The Owls began the month with a frustrating home defeat to Birmingham, which saw Wednesday reduced to nine men, with Marco Matias and Daniel Pudil receiving their marching orders.

In-form striker Lucas Joao pulled a goal back at 3-0 down early in the second half but it was a mountain too high for the Owls to climb.

Wednesday responded by posting a point from the South Yorkshire derby away at Barnsley, Atdhe Nuhiu on target from the penalty spot.

The highlight of February came next time out when the Owls returned to winning ways, producing a fine team display against Derby at Hillsborough.

Joao stole the headlines with his impressive double on a pleasing night for manager Jos Luhukay, who recorded his maiden league win at the club.

A goalless draw with Swansea in the fifth round of the FA Cup followed, where goalkeeper Cameron Dawson had to be on top form to keep out the Premier League outfit, making one outstanding save to deny Mike van der Hoorn.

A much-changed Owls side then went down 2-1 at Millwall on the long, cold trip to the capital in midweek. The game saw the visitors break the deadlock thanks to a special strike from Joey Pelupessy.

And the month ended with defeats against promotion-chasers Aston Villa and Swansea in the cup replay.

Sean Clare showed excellent composure to notch his first goal for the club on only his second start against Villa and another Joao strike put Wednesday in the driving seat at half time before the visitors fought back after the break.
