Match preview: Blades v Owls

9 November 2018

It’s derby day in the Steel City and here is swfc.co.uk’s match preview as the Owls face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane:

Wednesday go into the derby on the back of four straight league defeats and looking to arrest that slide.

Jos Luhukay will be aiming to steer his side back to the form before the international break that saw his side lose just one in nine and climb into the play-off positions.

United will also be aiming to hit back from defeat last time out at Nottingham Forest.

The Blades have won one of their last four outings but know three points in the derby would send them back to the top of the table.

Team news:

Owls: The big news from Thursday’s pre-match press conference concerned Fernando Forestieri and Marco Matias.

The duo were not expected back until after the international break but after two good weeks on the training field, both could play a part in the derby this evening.

Blades: United have no injury concerns going into the S2 clash.

Mark Duffy comes back into contention after missing the previous two outings with a minor injury.

Chris Basham is also available after missing out in United’s defeat at Forest through suspension.

Pre-match interviews

Minute's silence:

The Premier League, The FA, EFL and the PFA have joined forces under the banner of ‘Football Remembers’ to mark the Armistice Centenary and Remembrance weekend.

And the Steel City will unite prior to the derby fixture at Bramall Lane too.

The Last Post will be played by bugler Glyn Beyington and this will be followed by a period of silence.

Tickets:

Our full allocation of tickets sold out almost immediately and we urge Wednesdayites not to travel to S2 without possession of a valid matchday ticket.

Safety reminders:

We are underlining the consequences of any supporters attempting to ignite any form of pyrotechnic device.

Last week, ahead of bonfire night, the EFL re-launched its commitment to tackle the use of pyrotechnics, which includes smoke bombs, flares and fireworks within EFL football grounds.

Any supporter that has been, or found to be, in breach of the terms of the Charter is subject to a minimum three-season club ban.

Finally, the eyes of the football world will be on the televised derby encounter so we respectfully ask supporters to represent our club in the best possible way.

Thank you for your co-operation.
