18s comeback to post Bolton point

6 October 2018

The Owls Under-18s came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Bolton on Saturday lunchtime, preserving their unbeaten run in 2018/19.

Wednesday endured the worst possible start going a goal down inside the first minute.

Then three minutes into the second half, Bolton made it 2-0 to truly examine the character of Andy Holdsworth’s side.

But come back they did as Wednesday showed their credentials in a strong second half display from that point onwards.

The visitors halved the deficit on 57 minutes when Eyad Hammoud and Conor Grant linked up successfully, with the neat give and go allowing space for Grant to finish into the bottom corner.

As the Owls began to dominate the contest, an equaliser looked on the cards and duly arrived ten minutes after Grant’s strike.

Jordan O’Brien’s deep delivery picked out Liam Shaw, who managed to squeeze the ball past the goalkeeper at the near post.

The leveller capped a good week for Shaw, who earned his maiden place in the senior matchday squad for the clash with West Brom last Wednesday.

Having comeback into the game, and with Bolton on the backfoot, the Owls pushed for a late winner and went close in the final minute when Elliott Vaselo was denied one-v-one with the goalkeeper.

Wednesday remain at the top of the division on goal difference, with Nottingham Forest and Burnley right behind, and head to league struggles Hull next Saturday.

Owls: Render, Dawodu, Oliver, Waldock (Kenyon 90), Shaw, Ellery, Brandyn (Thompson 88), Farmer, Hammoud (Vaselo 90), Grant, O’Brien
