Football's coming home

24 October 2018

Football fans of all persuasions can visit the Sheffield Central Library on Thursday to see some of the beautiful game’s finest memorabilia.

The FA Cup will be on display alongside several other treasures to celebrate Sheffield as the home of football.

The Owls, and other local clubs, have contributed to the display, delving into the archive rooms to showcase some of their most iconic pieces.

The Sheffield Central Library in the town centre lies just metres away from where the Adelphi Hotel once resided, in which the first set of Sheffield Rules were written in 1858 and the Owls were formed in 1867.

A copy of these Sheffield Rules will be on display for the first ever time, as well as the Youdan Trophy, which was given to the winner of the Youdan Cup in 1867, the world’s first football cup competition.

The event is completely free to attend and is open from 10.30am to 2.30pm. Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own memorabilia to be seen by a football expert.

We hope to see you there tomorrow to witness some very special football treasures.
