Winnall on the comeback trail

2 October 2018

Sam Winnall could return to full team training this week.

That was the positive update issued by Owls boss Jos Luhukay on Tuesday morning during the club’s pre-West Bromwich Albion press conference.

The striker has been sidelined since sustaining knee ligament damage while on loan at Derby last February.

During his rehabilitation midway through September, Winnall suffered a minor setback on the training pitch picking up a calf injury.

But the 27-year-old has worked tirelessly to come back strong and, all being well in the next two to three weeks, could take the next step and feature for the Under-23s.

Luhukay said: “Sam Winnall is in a very good progression.

“We think maybe by the end of this week or next week he will be back to our team training.

“He could also come to his first games for the Under-23s in the next two or three weeks.

“That is very positive.”
