Our pride as a club

Tom Lees wants to use the feelings from post-match at Villa Park as incentive going forward, starting with Friday’s Yorkshire derby against Leeds.

Wednesday were at their best for big spells of Saturday’s impressive victory over Aston Villa and the captain says the team can take confidence from the performance.

As the Owls lock horns with their Yorkshire rivals Leeds, who are top of the table and four points ahead of Wednesday, Lees said ahead of the Hillsborough televised derby:

“From the Villa game it’s important we take confidence and remember the feeling we had after and use that now.

“We need to keep improving every day and every match because we still have a way to go but that performance should be used as an example of all the things we did well.

“It will give us confidence that we can play against good sides. The next game is a fixture that speaks for itself in its importance.

“We welcome a local rival to Hillsborough who have started the season very impressively and are full of confidence.

“I’m sure the atmosphere will be amazing and the game will live up to the occasion.

“It’s important for us that we get a win to carry on a good feeling but more importantly for our pride as a club.”
