“I have the feeling really that he has been a first 11 player for the last ten years...”
A glowing endorsement of Matt Penney from Owls boss Jos Luhukay following the defender’s superb start the season.
The 20-year-old made his debut in the EFL Cup victory away at Sunderland and his full debut in the victory over Millwall at Hillsborough back in August.
Penney’s transition to first team football has certainly caught the eye and after another outstanding display in the Owls’ rearguard at Villa Park, Luhukay said:
“He has been fantastic in that left back position.
“He plays with no fear, he is not afraid and he is a very good player for us. I am so happy with him.
“It was a decision we made last Wednesday to rest him with three games so close, Stoke City, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa.
“With what we have coming with Leeds and West Brom, we need him but we must remember he is very early into his career and must go very careful with him.
“He played a very good game at Aston Villa.”
