In football for these challenges

4 April 2019

Tom Lees says Wednesday will give everything to stay in the race for a play-off spot with seven games to go.

While breaking into the top six looks a big ask for the Owls, the recent form has given everyone a belief at Hillsborough.

Steve Bruce’s impact at the club has been outstanding and Wednesday are now 12 unbeaten heading into Saturday’s clash with his former club Aston Villa.

Lees says the players are ready to meet the coming challenges head on, as he explains in his latest matchday programme column.

He said: “I’m sure other teams with more points or more favourable fixtures will consider themselves in a stronger position than us, but we are in the race so we are going to give our all.

“I don’t think we are under huge pressure because no one expects us to do it but there is a determination within us to have a real go and see what we can do.

“As has been said we have very tough fixtures, we play all the teams above us hoping to get in the play-offs and the current top two away from home.

“It’s what you’re in football for these challenges so we will give it a good go from now until the end of the season.

“Regardless of what happens from now until the end of this season, all the improvements we are making, we will need them next season so it gives reason for optimism.”

You can read Lees’ full captain’s column this weekend in ‘Wednesday’.
