Barry Bannan will undergo a scan on Monday to discover the extent of the injury the midfielder picked up on Saturday.
The 29-year-old pulled up with a hamstring injury after 73 minutes of the clash with Aston Villa and was replaced by Marco Matias.
The former Villa man adds to the Owls’ injury frustrations, as Wednesday now wait on the fitness of the influential midfield man.
Bannan tweeted: “Not the result we wanted today sometimes it just don’t go your way thanks for your support and concern over my injury.
“I don’t know how bad the injury is I will find out Monday when I have a scan.”
Sharing his frustration, manager Steve Bruce added: “It’s been the biggest pain since I came in, the injuries, and we’ve had two more today.
“It’s a big frustration but it is what it is and it’s just another blow from a day that just didn’t belong to us.”
