U23s report: Owls 0-1 Forest

1 April 2019

The Owls Under-23s slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest on Monday afternoon at Middlewood Road.

Substitute Brennan Johnson scored the decisive goal for the visitors, but in truth neither goalkeeper was majorly tested for most of the game.

Wednesday did have an early opportunity in the match, winger Daniel Bramhall squared to Omar Damba but his effort went wide of the post.

The next chance in a cagey first half fell to Forest, Jayden Richardson’s strike from the edge of the box was well parried by Cameron McCulloch in the Owls’ goal before being cleared out of play.

McCulloch was called into action once more just before half time when Victor Sodinde’s close range header was tipped wide by the shot-stopper.

The second half picked up from where the first left off, with both sides struggling to carve out any real clear chances on goal.

That was until Forest broke down the right wing on 55 minutes with Tyrese Fornah, who drove the ball low into the near post, and after a short scramble it fell into the path of Johnson and the forward placed calmly into the net.

The Owls fashioned a couple of half chances to put the score level before full time, both of which came from Alex Hunt.

The midfielder curled a free kick wide and then struck low into the keeper’s hands from the edge of the box shortly before the final whistle.

Wednesday: McCulloch, Baker, West, Pudil, Thorniley, Lee, Bramhall (Grant, 57), Hunt, Damba (Borukov,71), Kirby, Preston (Shaw, 57)
