After watching his side climb to third in the table, Garry Monk said the Owls were good value for their 1-0 over Bristol City on Sunday.
Wednesday dominated proceedings at Hillsborough but had to wait until the 85th minute for the winning goal, which Barry Bannan delivered from the penalty spot.
And Monk said: “We found a way to win today and credit to the players, they have given everything again and they got what they deserved.
“The games can’t all be like last week and this was another game and a different kind of game.
“We pressed as the match went on and got the penalty and the win.
“Bristol City are a good side, they would have gone above us in the table had they won so this was a tough challenge.
“We’ve come through that challenge and it’s three more points on the board, which is the most important thing.”
The Owls boss issued an update on the absent Steven Fletcher, who was sidelined through illness on Sunday.
Monk, though, hopes to have his top scorer back in the ranks for the Boxing Day trip to Stoke.
He added: “Fletch has a bug, he has been laid up for a couple of days so we had to keep him away from the training ground.
“All being well he’ll be back in time for Stoke.”
