After dominating long periods of the game, the Owls just couldn’t make the vital breakthrough in front of goal and had to settle for a point against Reading.
And Steve Bruce emphasised the important of taking chances as Wednesday rued their profligacy in the final third.
He said: “We had some really good chances today and it was disappointing we couldn’t take them.
“Football is a wonderful game, we all know that, and we all know the strikers tend to get more than anyone else because putting the ball in the net can be the hardest thing to do.
“We dominated the game as we did at Ipswich last week and we’ve created enough chances in both to win comfortably.
“But that will come, we’re building a platform here, and not everything will click overnight.
“The players have responded really well to what we’re trying to do but sometimes you get those days and today was one.”
At the other end of the field, Bruce was pleased with another clean sheet, the Owls’ seventh in 11 games.
“A clean sheet is always a positive for me as a defender. We were conceding too many goals before and you can’t keep conceding twos and threes because you’re giving yourself a big job to score more.
“So we’ve really shored that up, we’re pleased about that and we’re giving ourselves a firm platform to build on.”
