U18 report: Forest 1-1 Owls

10 February 2019

The Owls gained what could prove a vital point against Nottingham Forest on Saturday in the race for the U18 Professional Development League title.

It was second v third as Wednesday travelled to rivals Forest with just a point separating the two sides in the division.

In difficult conditions for the players with strong swirling winds throughout, it was hosts who went ahead after 52 minutes through Ethan Dekel-Daks.

The Forest midfielder swept the ball home from the edge of the box after good hold up play from Will Swan.

But Wednesday’s resilience and never-say-die attitude, that has served them so well this season, was evident once again as they chased an equaliser.

Andy Holdsworth’s side were unfortunate not to level on 68 minutes when Liam Waldock’s effort struck the woodwork but the Owls’ persistence paid off right at the last.

A long punt forward from Josh Render picked out Charles Hagan, who took the ball in his stride before finishing low into the bottom corner in the 90th minute to earn a crucial point for Wednesday.

Owls: Render, Dawodu, Ellery, Kenyon (Hall 86), Thompson, Rice, Vasalo (Waldock 54), Farmer (Brandy 81), Hagan, Grant, Hammoud
