U18s report: Owls 6-0 Crewe

17 February 2019

The Owls Under-18s proved too strong for Crewe with an emphatic 6-0 win on Saturday morning at Middlewood Road.

Crewe – whose first team, Under-23s and Under-18s all played on Saturday – arrived in S6 with a stretched squad and were up against it from the off against an in-form Owls side.

Charles Hagan took home the match ball after bagging his first hat-trick and there was also goals for Lewis Farmer, Conor Grant and L’Varn Brandy.

A smart corner delivery from Grant after 14 minutes saw Charles glance inside the far post to set the ball rolling.

Wednesday then remained in control but had to be patient for the second goal to arrive.

And in the space of two first half minutes, Wednesday stormed into a three-goal lead.

On 40 minutes, Eyad Hammoud went down in the box under a mis-timed challenge and Grant made no mistake from the resulting penalty.

And two minutes later, Hagan scored his second and the Owls’ third of the game.

Wednesday pressed high up the field, Liam Shaw won possession and fed Hagan who fired into the bottom corner.

There was no let-up in the second half and Andy Holdsworth’s side made it 4-0 ten minutes after the restart.

Shaw was again pivotal in the build-up, playing the ball to Farmer who drove into the box and coolly slotted home.

Then came a moment to savour for Hagan 15 minutes from the time.

The striker, who has been in fine form this season, notched his hat-trick after beating his marker in the box and finished out of reach of the Crewe keeper.

And with the last kick of the game, Wednesday made it six in stoppage time.

Hagan went one-on-one with the keeper before unselfishly squaring for Brandy to tap home.

Next-up for Wednesday is Bolton at home on Saturday.

Owls: Render (Jackson 71), Dawodu, Ellery, Waldock (Kenyon 46), Thompson, Rice, Farmer, Shaw, Hagan, Grant (Brandy 61), Hammoud
