Luton replay, seeing a reaction and the reward on offer

14 January 2019

Keen to move on from a disappointing weekend, Steve Agnew says a quickfire return to action is welcome from a Wednesday perspective.

League One automatic promotion-hopefuls Luton are next up after the Owls and Hatters drew 0-0 in the FA Cup third round at Hillsborough over a week ago.

Luton are unbeaten on home soil in the league, underlining their credentials this season and the challenge that awaits on Tuesday evening.

“We’ve got to find out about the group and what we’ve got to do to improve them,” Agnew explained.

“We’ve got to try and get back on track with an FA Cup-tie and then obviously pick up as many points as we can for the remainder of the season.

“You learn every day with players, from the training sessions, to the warm-ups, to the very last finishing drill that we do in a session.

“We are continuing to observe and it’s important to look at players during difficult times and see how they react.”

There was nothing to separate the sides at Hillsborough after 90 minutes last time out.

But there must be a winner one way or another on the night on Tuesday, be it 90 minutes, extra time or penalties.

Agnew continued: “We want to see the reaction immediately, we’ve prepared the team this morning and we are ready to go against Luton in the FA Cup.

“It’s a difficult cup-tie, Luton are flying high, they had a good result at Sunderland and they’ve got good players.

“I felt it was a game where we had the chances at home. They’ll feel they’ve done the hard work and will want to turn us over on their own patch.

“But what greater prize could you have in the next round with a trip to Stamford Bridge and playing one of the best teams in Europe.

“We’re looking forward to Tuesday and hopefully getting the result that we need.”
