Owls pass on plastic

29 January 2019

Sheffield Wednesday and the Owls Community Programme are proud to announce the club is making a commitment to tackle our reliance on plastic products – not just on match day, but every day.

Eight million tonnes of plastic ends up in our ocean every year and at the current rate of consumption, by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean.

Sheffield Wednesday and SWFCCP believe we have an obligation to help in raising awareness and initiating action.

The Owls aim to host workshops in local schools to educate pupils and work together on ideas we can all use to do our bit for the environment.

These workshops will involve engaging activities for the schools to get to the bottom of how much plastic they are using and what small changes they can make.

There are more benefits too! For the schools involved, there will be opportunities for children to take part in competitions, meet the players and attend matches.

If you are a school who wants to get involved with the scheme – please email isobel.dunn@swfc.co.uk

In addition to education, as a football club we are pledging to reduce our consumption of single use plastics.

We are assessing how much plastic we use across the club – from the training ground to the concourse kiosks.

Our pledge to passing on plastic is an ongoing commitment, so there will be more to come over 2019.

Keep your eyes peeled on how you can support us in this effort!
