The Owls Under-18s posted their first pre-season win of the summer at Scunthorpe on Friday.
After going down 3-2 away at Lincoln on Tuesday, the Owls youngsters dusted themselves down and soon got into their stride against the Iron.
Two first year scholars, Alex Bonnington and Jay Glover combined to break the deadlock after 13 minutes, with the former applying a cool finish one on one with the goalkeeper.
The hosts grabbed an equaliser before the break after capitalising on a mix up at the back but 1-1 was a fair reflection of the game at the interval.
Wednesday came out for the second half with more purpose, quality and intensity about their game.
And this was rewarded just five minutes into second period when Charles Hagan regained the Owls’ advantage.
The striker, who was one of many standout players in the 18s’ double winning side last season, worked hard to close down the goalkeeper, win possession and score with a simple tap in.
And to make absolutely sure of the victory, Hagan doubled his tally 13 minutes from time to provide Wednesday with a two-goal cushion.
All about fitness for the youngsters at this stage but a welcome win nonetheless for Andy Holdsworth’s side, who are next in action on Tuesday along with the Under-23s away at Derby.
