A day to remember for kind-hearted Owls youngster

18 March 2019

Super fan Shay O’Grady was a special guest of the club on Saturday.

As the Owls maintained their stunning run of form with a 4-2 win over Blackburn, young Shay watched on from the comfort of the Directors Box, alongside Owls chairman Dejphon Chansiri.

It was a well-deserved reward for the eight-year-old, who walked 16 miles from Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice to Hillsborough earlier this month ahead of the Sheffield derby.

The walk was to raise funds for Bluebell Wood, where his cousin Evie-Mae receives care for a rare chromosome deletion order.

Shay originally set a target of £400 but upon arriving in S6 for the Steel City derby, that figure stood at almost £4,000.

So impressed by the youngster’s attitude, determination and charity spirit, Mr Chansiri made a pledge to Shay and doubled his fundraising effort and then rounded up the figure to £10,000.

Shay was interviewed on the pitch at half time and after the game, was taken by the chairman to meet his Owls heroes behind the scenes!

Presented with his favourite player Barry Bannan’s shirt, Shay stopped round to meet manager Steve Bruce and the players to cap off a memorable day.

A great story and well done Shay – keep up your excellent work!
