That little bit of quality

12 March 2019

Steve Bruce hailed ‘that little bit of quality’ as Steven Fletcher laid the foundations for Rolando Aarons to seal victory at Bolton on Tuesday.

With the first half heading towards a tepid end, Fletcher illuminated the game with a fine strike before Aarons did the same on the hour.

And Bruce underlined the value of that edge in the final third speaking to swfc.co.uk after the game:

“Well it was a terrible evening for football, you wouldn’t send a lifeboat out in that! But seriously, it was low key in the first half, there wasn’t much to shout about, but when you have that little bit of quality up top, it can make the difference and it did that tonight.

“Fletch took his goal really well and the build-up was excellent. Then we came out for the second half with that extra bit of confidence and it showed, because young Aarons hits a super strike and I’m delighted for him.

“I’m delighted for all of them really, they’ve dug deep tonight so fair play to the players.”

The travelling triumph elevated the Owls to within three points of the top six and Bruce is maintaining his stance of keep on doing what you are doing – the rest will take care of itself.

He added: “Well what we’ve done is given ourselves a chance, that’s what I would say. A few weeks ago it looked dead and buried.

“We’ve had a few wins, we’ve had a few draws and we are where we are. We’ll keep going about our business, working hard and giving what we can.

“This Championship is a strange old division you know, so let’s see where the next few weeks take us.”
