Before Christmas, the Owls ran a series of competitions for Wednesdayites to win money-can’t-buy experiences by simply opting into the database and then answering a simple question.
Billy and Tyreece were two of the lucky winners who were able to go behind the scenes at Sheffield Wednesday’s training ground and experience a day as a player.
After finding a free week for the boys in the school holidays, the pair made the journey to Middlewood Road for a full day’s work!
The experience
Upon arrival, the winners were greeted by first team Sports Scientist, Jeremy, who gave Billy and Tyreece an extensive tour of the training facilities.
From the dome to the boot room, the boys (and their guardians!) were fixated on what behind the scenes looks like.
Andy Barlow, Billy’s Grandfather, said: “It’s great to see this club from a completely different perspective.”
It didn’t take long for the boys to get stuck in either. While having breakfast in the team canteen, Billy bumped into his favourite player Adam Reach.
Not long after, they were quizzing Steve Bruce in his office before hitting the gym for a warm-up with the squad and the strength and conditioning team.
The ultimate experience for the young Owls was when they took to the pitch with the players!
The boys did well to keep up and after the experience a star-struck Billy said: “I’m stuck for words, they were really friendly and supportive.”
The day was rounded off with Sam Hutchinson and Barry Bannan generously gifting both competition winners with signed boots.
A great day for all involved!
