18s back to winning ways

10 November 2019

The Owls Under-18s ended a four-game winless run by beating Burnley 2-1 on the road on Saturday.

The Owls youngsters had been on a frustrating run in the division, without a win since late September, but those frustrations were cast aside at the Barnfield Training Centre.

Wednesday took the lead midway through the first period through Luke Cox and deservedly so after making a strong start.

Lewis Farmer’s free kick was launched into the danger zone where Cox nodded home to cap a good start for the visitors.

Burnley responded in the second half and levelled three minutes after the restart.

Owls goalkeeper Luke Jackson got hands to the ball from a Clarets corner, but was unable prevent the ball hitting the back of the net.

Wednesday had to show their grit and determination to go again and got their big break five minutes from time.

Paulo Aguas slotted past the goalkeeper but the ball was stopped from crossing the line by the arm of a Clarets defender, who was shown a red card, before skipper Declan Thompson converted the resulting penalty.

Wednesday are on the road next weekend at Bolton.

Owls: Jackson, Farmer, Oliver, Kenyon, Thompson, Cox, Hagan (Glaves 89), Glover, Bonnington, Trueman (Aguas 66), Brandy (Zottos 80)
