U18 report: Birmingham 3-1 Owls

24 November 2019

The Owls Under-18s went down 3-1 at Birmingham on Saturday.

Wednesday led in the game through Charles Hagan’s smartly taken goal from range in the 18th minute.

It capped a bright start for the Owls but ultimately, the visitors couldn’t add to their lead despite creating chances and the Blues came back strong midway through the first half.

Birmingham were awarded a penalty on 36 minutes, but more worryingly for the Owls, goalkeeper Luke Jackson was injured in the collision which led to the spot kick being awarded.

After a 24-minute delay for Jackson to receive treatment, substitute Alex Hare came on to face the penalty which was converted.

The hosts completed the comeback 15 minutes from time with a deep free kick and made sure of the points on 80 minutes after firing home from a scramble inside the box.

Wednesday will be looking to respond to back to back 3-1 defeats on Saturday when they host Barnsley at Middlewood Road (11am).

Owls: Jackson (Hare 36), Farmer, Oliver, Kenyon, Ellery, Cox, Hagan, Glover, Bonnington, Trueman (Hall 70), Brandy (Aguas 81)
