18s held by Leeds

21 October 2019

The Owls Under-18s were left frustrated following Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Yorkshire rivals Leeds.

Looking for a response following the 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest the previous week, the Wednesday youngsters produced a good performance but failed to make chances count at Middlewood Road.

Wednesday’s best opportunity came from the penalty spot in the first half but striker Alex Bonnington was denied from 12 yards, as the Leeds goalkeeper sprung to his left to make a good stop.

The Owls dominated possession, albeit with limited chances to break the deadlock in the first period, save a curling effort from Charles Hagan, that was well held by the goalkeeper.

With the clock ticking down in the second half, the Owls continued to probe but time and time again were left frustrated.

And that trend continued in the final few moments as Luke Hall slid a perfect throughball to release Hagan, who timed his run to perfection but his low strike at the near post was saved and gathered at the second attempt.

Wednesday travel to league leaders Wigan on Saturday, who have won seven of their 11 league games this season, including five wins on the spin ahead of the weekend clash with the Owls.

Owls: Jackson, Farmer, Oliver, Kenyon, Thompson, Cox, Hagan, Bonnington, Hall (Zottos79), Vasalo (Glover 11)
