A productive break

16 October 2019

It’s been almost two weeks since the Owls’ 1-0 win over Wigan at Hillsborough and manager Garry Monk has been pleased by the work of his side over the international break since.

Wednesday are set to resume their Championship campaign on Friday with a trip to Cardiff live on Sky Sports.

Having made a strong start to his time with the Owls, taking ten points from a possible 15, the international break has been Monk’s first real extended period with his side on the training pitch.

And plenty has been achieved during that time as he explained to swfc.co.uk:

“I said with the international break, I haven’t had the luxury of a pre-season with these players, so it’s been about putting certain things in place when you can.

“In this league, the games come thick and fast, for instance we are now going into another three-game week.

“At those times, you don’t get a lot of time on the training pitch with the players and it was also like that when I first came in.

“You use it partly for recovery because for some players, it’s the only time you can get full recovery in.

“But we’ve covered a lot of work, reminders of what we’ve already been doing and adding a few more bits along the way, trying to make it clear, trying to make us better.

“We’ve done some really good work during the break and we just need to continue that.”
