Börner back for Owls

31 October 2019

Julian Börner will be available for the Owls’ trip to Blackburn this weekend.

The in-form central defender injured his ankle in the warm-up ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Yorkshire rivals Leeds last Saturday.

A late change to the teamsheet saw Sam Hutchinson switch to centre back and Joey Pelupessy come into the midfield.

But Börner has been part of the preparations for the Owls’ Championship fixture at Ewood Park, as manager Garry Monk said:

“He’s good, he’s been back in training and had no reaction to anything.

“He twisted his ankle in the warm-up and we had to deal with that at the time and I thought we did it exceptionally well.

“He’s been back in training this week with no problem.”

Full of praise for the way his side adapted to that setback shortly before kick-off in the derby, Monk added:

“It is the players’ understanding that is needed in certain moments and obviously Hutch has, earlier in his career, a background at centre back.

“It wasn’t a position that was unfamiliar to him. He was able to adapt quickly and it was seamless, so credit to the players who delivered a quality performance under the circumstances.”
